In response to the recent increase in wildfires and related power outages across California health plans have had to examine their role in ensuring that members continue to have access to care during these natural disasters and emergency preparations. Ensuring that Californians can remain safe and healthy during natural disasters requires a complicated network of local and state services. The responsibility of health plans to support emergency responders and assist members in navigating this often-complicated system is essential. Roles in an emergency should be clearly defined so that there are agreed upon protocols and access to critical services can be maintained.
