Statement from Patrick Johnston, President and CEO, California Association of Health Plans - February 9, 2010
In response to the release of the California Office of the Patient Advocate's 2010 HMO Report Card, CAHP CEO Patrick Johnston issued the following statement.
SACRAMENTO - "Today's HMO report card reveals that, overall, California's health plans are delivering high quality health care to their members.
"In the midst of a severe recession, our state's health plans have improved or maintained the level of care they provide.
"These ratings reflect that managed care is a partnership between the health plan, doctors and patients. Each party plays an essential role in improving health outcomes.
"As the nation continues to debate how best to reform our health care system, it is important to build on those areas that work well. These ratings show that people are satisfied with their health plan, but in this challenging fiscal climate, too many people do not have coverage.
Policymakers need to help curb the cost of medical care so more Californians afford health coverage for themselves and their families."
