Legislative Advocate Supports Improved Health Care Quality and Accessibility

SACRAMENTO - The California Association of Health Plans (CAHP) today announced that Nicholas Louizos has been promoted to Director of Legislative Affairs after serving three years as a legislative advocate for the trade association.

With a majority of CAHP membership participating in government-sponsored health care programs, Louizos has developed expertise in government health care programs, such as Medi-Cal and Healthy Families. He is also CAHP's lead advocate on budget issues.

In addition to his work on public health care program issues, Louizos advocates to help ensure that state policy keeps privately purchased health care coverage fair and cost effective for employers and individuals alike.

"For over three years, Nick has worked tirelessly to help improve the quality and accessibility of health care for some of the most at-risk populations in California," said CAHP President and CEO Patrick Johnston.  "With the considerable government and health care knowledge he gained working as staff in the Legislature, Nick brings well-informed, thoughtful and strategic arguments into legislative discussions about our health care system."

Prior to joining CAHP, Louizos gained nearly 10 years of experience working for the state Legislature, most recently serving as Senior Consultant for Assemblymember Hector De La Torre (D-50), during his tenure as Chair of the Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services.  Prior to this position, he served as consultant to the Assembly Labor Committee.

Mr. Louizos graduated from the California State University Los Angeles with a Bachelors degree in political science.  He later earned his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.   When not walking the halls of the Capitol or spending time with his wife and three kids, Louizos jams and gigs with his band, Special Interest.

CAHP is a statewide trade association representing 39 full-service health plans. Through legislative advocacy, education and collaboration with other member organizations, CAHP works to sustain a strong environment in which our member plans can provide access to products that offer choice and flexibility to the more than 24 million members they serve.
