Department of Managed Health Care holds public meeting on regulations that will outlaw balance billing of health care consumers

WHAT:
The Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC), will hold a public meeting on its proposed regulations to ban the practice of balance billing consumers for health care services. Currently, a doctor or hospital who disputes the amount paid by a health plan sometimes bills the consumer for the "balance" of a bill. Kaiser members recently balance billed by a southern California hospital chain are expected to testify at the beginning of the meeting.
