 Conference

Registration Now Open! CAHP 33rd Annual Conference

October 22-24, 2018
Manchester Grand Hyatt - San Diego, CA

As lawmakers at the federal level make significant changes to the Affordable Care Act, these efforts in Washington D.C. have energized stakeholders in California to attempt another revamp of our health care system.  For example, lawmakers over the past several months have debated whether the state should move toward a single payer health care system, regulate health care prices, create a public option, and expand coverage to the remaining uninsured.  Other stakeholders support less drastic measures, but still back efforts to achieve universal coverage in the state, a goal which is now closer than ever to being realized.  Today about 93% of California’s residents are covered by some form of health insurance.

In the meantime, CAHP and its member plans have been working hard to improve our existing health care system and how consumers interact with health plans.  From urging lawmakers to consider a state level individual mandate, to expanding coverage, to providing increased subsidies for those who buy insurance on their own, California’s health plans are part of the debate.  Health plans and stakeholders have also been busy in recent months developing a groundbreaking statewide provider directory utility, implementing Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) and Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) regulations, and much more.

California’s Medi-Cal managed care plans are considering innovative ways to coordinate care.  For example, DHCS this year has engaged in an effort to interview health plans and other stakeholders to figure out how to best improve care coordination for the Medi-Cal program.  Plans and other stakeholders are also looking at ways to update the current Medi-Cal rate setting methodology and how that could result in improved care.  Health plans and others are in the midst of a number of pilot programs that could improve coordination of care delivery for Medi-Cal.

Join over 1,000 health care professionals to learn how health plans in California are dealing with changes, taking on new responsibilities for the state, implementing laws and regulations, and planning for the future.
