CAHP 2008 Conference Overview
California’s vigorous health care reform debate last year focused mostly on one half of the equation -- expanding coverage -- while remaining largely silent on the equally important issue of improving the affordability of medical care. Yet, we can’t be silent when the rising cost of medical care is keeping health coverage out of reach for more and more Californians. The 23rd annual conference of the California Association of Health Plans will shine a spotlight on the opportunities to control medical inflation and the challenges this entails. We will examine purchasers’ drive toward value-based care – paying for the right care and not paying for the wrong care. We will look at solutions to improve the quality and cost of care through traditional care models and those that break the mold and give us new ways to access care.
Similarly, our conference will explore the opportunities and challenges facing public programs serving kids, moms, persons with disabilities and others in need -- programs that can benefit from expanded managed care, which could improve care and save money in these tight fiscal times. Finally, we will reflect on the coverage debate in California and how the increasing attention on health care reform on the national stage impacts efforts to cover the uninsured in California.
This conference is a must for California health plan leadership, whether your role is general management, medical and pharmacy management, network management, product and sales management, government, regulatory, legal and public relations management. Plans located outside of California but doing business in the Golden State will find this a great opportunity to quickly catch up on California health care issues and to connect with those working the issues. Regulators from California and elsewhere, along with health care policy and research organizations with an interest in health care in California, will find this a conference rich in content and contacts. Finally, purchasers of health benefits, including employer purchasers, consultants, and brokers, will want to attend to understand the impact of policy changes on their California employees and customers.
CAHP Conference History
Since 1985, CAHP has
hosted the Annual Managed Care Conference, the premier event for
health care content and networking opportunities. Our conference
pulls speakers, programs and organizations from across the nation
to bring global perspectives on a variety of issues facing our
industry.
Each year our conference provides timely and useful information
on cutting-edge issues within the health care industry. The conference
is our largest event of the year, attracting more than 450 attendees.
We bring together health plan CEOs, COOs, CFOs, medical and pharmacy
directors, government affairs and legal and regulatory staff,
media and managers of product planning and provider contracting.
We also have strong attendance from others within the health care
industry including health law attorneys, brokers, IPA and medical
group physicians and representatives from pharmaceutical, disease
management, biotechnology, and information technology companies.
Each conference includes an array of educational workshops as
well as addresses by prominent Keynote speakers. Networking opportunities
are many with an extensive exhibit hall created to allow attendees
access to the newest industry breakthroughs.
In conjunction with the annual conference, CAHP hosts the legislation
Implementation Seminar. The Implementation Seminar provides detailed
materials invaluable to plans and compliance staff to help ensure
plans comply with recent laws and regulations. Additionally, each
attendee receives an information manual containing final regulations
and implementation guidelines as part of the seminar.
